Jahbutu is a high energy, positively inspired, Caribbean party, dance band, formed in 1996 by Trinidadian Alvin Jahbutu Rostant.

The band creates a vibrant, colourful and exciting blend of dance music direct from the streets of Carnival and music studios in the West Indies. Featuring traditional and contempary West Indian music with all the latest hot hot hot sounds of soca and calypso, combined with some funky Ragga and reggae grooves that is being played on the club cercuit, also afro/latin rythyms which are inherent in the Caribbean and South America. All this combined, creates the most authenthic calypso experience this side of the Caribbean.

The band is renowned for creating a lively dance party atmosphere everywhere they have performed whilst captivating their audience with their vibrant and colourful performances. In a show characterised by fun, laughter and audience participation, Jahbutu is only too willing to host the limbo contest or conga line, the trade mark of Caribbean dance. The repertoire is a carefully blended mix of originals and selected covers from Bob Marley, Arrow, Carlos Santana, UB40, Steel Pulse, David Rudder and Sparrow to name a few.

Gai Dunlop, Producer of Warana Festival, Brisbane, Australia is quoted to say “Everyone loves the show, without a doubt the highlight of the Warana Festival this year” The Manager of Rolls Night Club, Sheraton Mirage Gold Coast, Australia is quoted to say, “ Hot! Hot! Hot! .. What great dance music!”

Jahbutu The Man

Full name Alvin Rostant, Jahbutu is from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago situated in the south Caribbean just ten kilometres off the coast of South America and being the land of calypso, soca, steeldrums and limbo dance of course. He began his music career playing the steel drums with his father’s band the Free French Steel Orchestra at the age of fourteen. As Jahbutu’s career developed he began touring the world as a steeldrum player and vocalist at age twenty one and performed throughout the USA, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands and Australia, and when Jahbutu brought the rich culture of the Caribbean Islands to Australia he spared nothing in taking it to all the major cities and outback Australia.
